Every year the Hunterdon Arrowhead District puts on the Yukon Trail event.  The Yukon Trail event is the Cub Scout version of a Boy Scout Klondike Derby.  It's theme is based on the Klondike Gold Rush that took place in the Yukon Territory during the late 1800's.  This event is located at the Spruce Run State Park.

 

The Spruce Run Picnic Area will be set up with different "Towns" (stations) scattered throughout the Yukon Territory. Then "Dens" (teams) of up to 6 scouts each will make their way along the "Yukon trail" visiting each town, where they'll be expected to perform that town's activity.  The scouts will then be scored on how well they completed the activity.  Each scout that visits that town will also get a gold nugget as a token. Please have your scout bring a pouch or bag to hold the various gold nuggets they will aquire during the day.

 

At lunch time the scouts will temporarily leave the trail to socialize and eat lunch.  Hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be available for purchase, or a scout can brown bag his lunch for the day.

 

After lunch, the trail calls forth again with the Dens visiting any remaining Towns they have yet to visit.  The scouts will need to work together to move through the Yukon Territory.

 

Once the towns are completed each den's scores will be added up.  A closing ceremony will follow, at which time awards will be given to the Dens that have scored well during their activities. Each scout that participates will receive a Yukon Trail Patch.  We've participated in this event in the past, and a great time was had by all.

 

Please mark your calendars so you don't miss out on this fun pack outing.  This is a rain or shine event so dress warm, prepare accordingly, and be ready to have a good time.  It's a nice opportunity to meet, and have fun with, other scouts from around the area.

10:00am - Registration ($10 Per Scout)

10:30am - Opening Ceremony - Embark Down Yukon Trail

12:00pm - Lunch

12:30pm - Reembark Down Yukon Trail

03:00pm - Awards - Closing Ceremony
